A residential roof is not a bare metal panel over an open barn

What causes ticking, popping, or movement sounds?
Metal expands as it heats and contracts as it cools. A roof can experience rapid temperature changes when morning sun reaches one slope, clouds pass, rain cools a hot panel, or evening air arrives. Controlled movement is part of metal-roof design, especially on long panels.

If a current metal roof is noisy or sweating
Record when the condition occurs: rain intensity, sun exposure, temperature change, wind direction, season, indoor humidity, cooking or bathing, and which rooms are affected. Photograph visible moisture and trace whether it appears at a leak path, fastener, duct, nail, panel underside, or broad cold surface.
